the basic eye test on foreign policy for a vice presidential nominee. i think that biden, look, there has been so much out there that paul ryan will wipe the floor with biden, i think that the expectations game has shifted in the obama-biden cam favor particularly after mitt romney's strong performance last wednesday. the only thing i am worried about from the perspective of joe biden and what democrats should be anxious over in my view is if joe biden has red enough of the press where people are expecting him to get clobbered and maybe he is feeling more pressure since the president performs so poorly last week. maybe he feels like he has to bone up and do it himself. when he gets emotional or angry his mouth does things that really hurt. >> a couple the last few weeks there have been a couple of gaffes from joe biden. maybe there is desperation in the campaigning saying we are spending hundreds of millions. there is some pressure here on represent biden. i think that the expectations are so low for him because of his gaffe reputation, people could underestimate him a little bit. paul ry

't tell you who is advising him on all of these matters. one of his foreign policy advisers is john bolten, who never bet a bomb he couldn't launch. he told fox news, the better way to prevent iran from getting nuclear weapons is to attack the program directly. oh, boy. another romney adviser, here's a dandy. state department official robert joseph. joseph, you're wondering where do woe know this guy from? he's been calling for an attack on iran since 2006. and you might remember him as the guy who told president bush to use a false story about iraq and juuranium. then there's elliot cohen, who says romney wouldn't rule out sending troops to libya. anybody in favor of that? it's no wonder romney's foreign policy got a thumbs up from donald rumsfeld who tweeted, terrific, comprehensive speech by romney. he knows the role of the united states in the world should be a leader. it came out of the play book. vote for us, or we're going to get attacked again. >> america's security and the cause of freedom cannot afford four more years like the last four years. >> mitt romney will not let american

romney goes into this debate and starts asking president obama about foreign policy, i think he will lose an incredible opportunity because this is a debate about domestic policy. shifting the topic doesn't make sense. you're not going to win this election by trying to convince the american voter, the president hasn't done a good job on foreign policy. it's not the record. he's done an incredible job on foreign policy, incredible job in dismantling al qaeda, capturing top operatives, killing bin laden. those are -- that is a tough record for governor romney to kind of attack. >> michael, what do you make of this strategy before going into this debate on domestic policy, romney with an op-ed on foreign policy, already information he's going to give this big speech when so many times you and i have had strategists as a part of this panel and they say he wants to talk about the economy, not by any stretch of the imagination say what's happening in afghanistan or libya should be diminished but the domestic policy issue, getting people to work, that is supposed to be governor romney's a game.

themselves in foreign policy, because they are not yet in office. but there have been instances where people, where he felt, china was being criticized, and he made a very sharp response. i've had several conversations with xi and i found him an extraordinary thoughtful person who raised a number of philosophical questions. the problem they face is, if you look at their own agenda, the things they have stated, they want to do for the next 10 years, you know china will have to go to change it. i think it's unlikely in 10 years the next generation will come into office with exactly the same institutions that exist today. and precisely because everybody knows in china there is a kind of political evolution being discussed every day. this is one reason why i do not believe that great foreign adventures or confrontations with the united states can be gone their agenda. they know that domestic changes, in the sense of moving part of the population, overcoming the country in which the coast is highly developed and the interior quite undeveloped, in terms of you cannot keep a society -- [inaudible]
